This open plan ensuite bathroom is a trending style in penthouse apartments and larger inner-city homes around Melbourne. The style creates an intimate connection between the bedroom and bathroom and therefore needs more client-specific design solutions. This is what we did, and how we linked it all together.
The main bedroom was open to the ensuite,(no door) so it was important that the ensuite was designed with a suitable focal point to take advantage of this. A double basin with cabinets was run across the doorway. The mirror above the vanity reflected an artistic niche in one wall of the ensuite as well as paintings in the bedroom and the pool outside. A T style internal wall configuration hid a double walk-in shower to the left and toilet and storage cupboard to the right. The client was open to feature tiles and keen for a more dramatic look so we placed a strip vertically through the vanity area. In the shower area, we ran the floor tiles up onto one wall and again used a feature tile vertically which acted as a delineation between the double showers. An impact was achieved while maintaining a colour scheme that married through from the bedroom to the bathroom.
