Designers Talk & Tips
While luxury may begin with features that stun your guests, and put a smile on your face every time you open the
bathroom door. Creating your own soothing luxury spa experience is a more involved process than the features you select.
“The whole experience and feel that a bathroom creates will depend on the overall design vision.” – Owen Barnes
It begins with creating an overall theme to your luxury bathroom, deciding on a feeling or emotion you want to exemplify and expressing it in every detail to create a bigger picture. The centerpiece of your bathroom says a lot. A grand Jacuzzi style bathtub will set the stage to relax your stress from a long days work.
For example, this client wanted a very traditional bathroom (Style) that looked onto a modern Asian (Theme) courtyard. The bathroom needed to change to take full advantage of the relaxation aspect (Feel). The client was very keen to have a soaker-style bath (Centrepiece) that was in keeping with some of the Japanese traditions.

We all know that chrome is the more popular choice for luxury tapware. But i think gold derserves a little more credit than what it gets. It may seem a little old fashioned, but with a touch of gold, i got to say it’s quite alluring and even… quite romantic…
Designers Talk & Tips
♦ Gold is a soft metal, therefore, does not wear well long term. Our experience shows most bathrooms with gold plated tap ware have serious signs of wear within 3 years of installation.
♦Gold plating varies considerably from product to product. Therefore, you must be careful as it can be drastic in colour variations.
♦Consider having all of the gold plated products re-plated by a plating specialist so you get a consistant colour and finish for all the products within the bathroom.
♦Be very careful with product selections as many manufacturers do not give gold as an option. For example. flush buttons & toilet hinges. However, if you have the time you can have these removed and plated.
