Bubbles Takes Out Another HIA Award
At the 2011 HIA Victorian Housing Awards State Finals at Crown Towers, Melbourne
last Friday, November 4, 2011, an esteemed judging panel awarded Bubbles
Bathrooms Victorian Bathroom of the Year Award ($40K+). “It is just fantastic,”
says Bubbles founder Owen Barnes. “Particularly for such a cool bathroom. It
has been such a great project.”
The master bathroom was the last part of an expansive inner city Melbourne
warehouse to be renovated by its owners. The old bathroom featured black and
white chequered tiles, a cramped shower/bath area and outdated vanities.
Bubbles Bathrooms set out to create a bathroom that complemented the stylish
warehouse space. “The end result is a real expression of contemporary luxury,”
says Owen.
The bathroom includes a striking black mosaic feature wall, clever inset
storage, a spacious walk-in shower area and oversized vanity basin. The
renovation includes a complete reorganization of the space as well as upgrades
to fixtures, fittings, lighting, drainage, ventilation, water saving and new
raised flooring. The color scheme works around china white and muted greys that
set off the feature mosaic. The overall feel is of a private sanctuary, an
urban retreat.
Bubbles Bathrooms is thrilled to be recognized again for a luxurious renovation
of an inner-city loft master bathroom. Melbourne bathroom specialists Bubbles
Bathrooms has won 39 HIA state and national bathroom awards in just 11 years.

Bubbles wins prestigious KBDi award

Bubbles Bathrooms has just won the KBDi Designer – Large Bathrooms VIC/TAS 2011 award at the recent KBDi DESIGN20eleven National Awards. The judges commented on the choice of fittings which they felt fit the tone of the bathroom perfectly. The black mosaic feature wall and the inset storage took the bathroom well beyond a generic bathroom upgrade. “It’s a real honor to receive this award,” says Owen. “It’s great that the Bubbles team can be recognised for all their hard work. Thank you to the Kitchen and Bathroom Designers Institute of Australia.”

Albert Park Bathroom
Bubbles Bathrooms was commissioned to transform a bedroom in a double-storey terrace in Albert Park into a lavish master bathroom. Many terraces do not have large bathroom spaces so it makes sense to use a larger space to get that deluxe master bathroom feel.
The centerpiece of the bathroom was to be a freestanding stone bath positioned in front of the existing marble fireplace. These baths weigh around 450 kilograms so we had to reinforce the floor. It was also challenging to actually get the bath upstairs. We couldn’t use a traditional crane because of power line obstruction therefore we used an industrial palette lifter, hoisted it up to the first floor verandah, which required removing the Victorian balustrades(!!!!) and because there was recent landscaping done in the front garden of the property, we had to build a large timber structure over this garden in order to provide a platform to lift the bath up from.
It was all worth it. The final bathroom won 2008 HIA Australian overall Best renovated bathroom project & best bathroom designer of the year. We love the sense of space and luxury in the bathroom, the way that the Victorian features are complemented by the overall theme of the bathroom. It’s a real five-star sanctuary. One of the things that Bubbles Bathrooms loves to do is ensure that any new renovations are sympathetic to the rest of the house. There’s nothing worse that a bathroom that looks like it has landed from outer space and has nothing to do with the rest of the home.
